China Urges Pakistan, Afghanistan to Resolve Disputes Through Dialogue

(MENAFN) China has called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to step back from escalating hostilities and resolve disputes through dialogue, following deadly weekend clashes along their shared frontier.

“Pakistan and Afghanistan are both China's traditional and friendly neighbors, and the two countries are and will always be neighbors of each other,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told reporters during a regular briefing in Beijing.

The appeal came after fighting between the two neighbors reportedly left at least five people dead in Afghanistan, though calm has since returned to the border region.

Guo urged both sides to “continue handling differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation, to de-escalate tensions, and jointly keep the region peaceful and stable.”

He added that China “stands ready” to cooperate with the wider international community and continue playing “a constructive role” in improving relations between Islamabad and Kabul.
